Suit of armour and gloves, reconstructions
The original in the display case to the left is the only one of the suits of armour so far examined the plates of which are riveted to the textile. The other ones all seem to have been covered by leather. Despite the suits of armour being heavy and looking awkward, they are easy to move in thanks to the protective plates’ mobility in relation to each other. The reconstruction has three layers of linen on the outside and textile on the inside. There are traces of cloth on the inside of the original. Please feel free to touch and squeeze.
The original on which the reconstructed gloves are based can be found in the display case to the left. It is known as “Glove 4”. It was excavated in 1912, but the placement of the different parts was not documented. Other gauntlets that have been found have helped in the reconstruction. Put your hands in and try them out.
