Battlefield archaeology
There are no written accounts from the time of the battle at Mästerby. The archaeological investigations of the battlefield carried out at the site since 2006 are the most important sources of information we know.
Battlefield archaeology provides us with new knowledge of well-known historical battlefields. Large areas can be investigated using metal detectors. The discoveries provide new insights into how the battle progressed.
The investigations carried out at Mästerby and the analyses of what has been found thus far continue. The picture of events on Gotland in July 1361 will of course become clearer.
