Hans Nielssøn Strelow

Strelow was a clergyman on Gotland and “superintendent” of Visby diocese. He lived in the first half of the 17th century.

He is mostly remember for posterity as the author of the historical work Chronica Guthilandorum, printed 1633 in Copenhagen.

The chronicle includes King Magnus’ warning letter to Visby from 1 May 1361. No original survives but perhaps Strelow had access to it, or to an older transcript. There are also detailed dates and figures that should be regarded critically.
