King Magnus warns Visby
In May 1361, the Swedish king sends a letter to Visby, warning of an attack:
“some of our enemies are conspiring to cause detriment to us and the entire kingdom”.
The letter was sent to Visby city council to be read aloud to the citizens, exhorting them to stand watch both day and night.
The king does not say who the enemies are. But the Danish King Valdemar Atterdag had captured Skåne, Blekinge and southern Halland from King Magnus in the previous year. Denmark was the constant enemy.
