8. Comb, antler

Från Stora Hellvigs, Fole socken, Gotland, 1300-1361 A. D. Two parts of the comb in the showcase. Combs were personal objects. This comb consists of toothed plates riveted onto rails, which were often ornate. In the 14th century double combs were common, where the teeth of one row were course and the other row was much more fine, much like a fine-toothed comb today. SHM 21993:10-17
