Helmet/hat, iron

From Hof, Vestfold, Norway, 1100-1500 A. D. Discovered in 1898 by a Norwegian agriculturist. In 1899, the helmet was acquired by the Nordiska museet in Stockholm and was deposited with The Swedish History Museum in 1947. Even though the helmet comes from Norway, it is very consistent with Swedish equipment of the 1300s. For example, similar iron hats are found on some saint sculptures and in a stone portal in Källunge Church in Östergötland. SHM 23741
